Swansea Council is working with the local community and award-winning designers, Curve Studio, to create a new generation of skate and wheeled sport facilities. The £1m+ initiative will provide new and improved provision across the city. This is wheeled sport for all - for health and well-being, for fun and friendship, for dreams of Olympic greatness.

By investing in a new generation of top-class facilities, the Council is supporting the growth of Swansea’s thriving skate and wheeled sports scene, to enhance the city as a whole. Well-designed facilities offer free for all, engaging places to get active and socialise. These outdoor spaces help support well-being and make a positive contribution in ensuring active lifestyles for local communities.

Robert Francis-Davies, Cabinet Member for Investment, Regeneration and Tourism says: "We want to create among the best community network of skate, BMX and wheeled sports facilities of any local authority in Wales.”

The project has two key stages. Phase One is to create a masterplan for all skate and wheeled sports across Swansea. Phase Two, scheduled to begin in spring 2024, will see us shape and refine the individual projects.

Having evaluated facilities and sites across the city, Curve Studio and the Council are calling on the community for their views on the current provision, and what they’d like to see in future developments. This is the first round of consultation for the masterplan.

Alongside the general public, Swansea also has a vibrant network of groups, enthusiasts and stakeholders advocating for improved facilities. These include Olympian BMX'er James Jones and former editor-in-chief of Transworld Skateboarding, Skin Philips. Curve Studio will work with the entire community to draw up a series of options for the skate and wheeled sports network.

The initial masterplan will be shaped by the consultation feedback, budget and site information. The options will reflect the diversity of the city and its aspirations.

A second round of consultation will give everyone an opportunity to give their views on the different options. Curve Studio will use this feedback to select and finesse a masterplan, ready for Cabinet to consider the potential investments.
